Guilherme Paulus is known as the ‘Most Powerful Man in Brazilian Tourism’. It’s not a title that he was given without good reason, in fact, there couldn’t be a more apt title to describe the business tycoon that has a vision and foresight about the country’s economy like Guilherme Paulus.

He is now one of the richest people in Brazil with him making the list of the Forbes Billionaires, but he didn’t start off with a fortune like that. It was amassed through hard work, clever thinking and a business acumen that is unrivaled.

Guilherme Paulus started his career by interning in IBM. But at the young age of 24 in 1972. He co-founded CVC Brasil Operadora e Agencia de Viagens S.A. a tour operator. His partner, a Brazilian politician, however, didn’t stay long and pulled out of the partnership. This left Guilherme in complete control at the helm of CVC.

He would take CVC and grow it to not just the biggest tour operator in Brazil, but in the entire Latin America region offering a wide array of services at extremely affordable prices. CVC’s growth was noticed by private investment firms with Carlyle Group buying 63.6% from Guilhermo Paulus for $420 Million in 2009. Guilhermo, however, was already on to his next project with GJP Hotels and Resorts, which he started in 2005.

GJP Hotels and Resorts have now served more than 90,000 customers across various states in Brazil providing employment to more than 2,000 people.

Guilherme Paulus is foremost a visionary and a patriot, he believes in his country and wants to see it succeed. With Brazil being one of the BRIC nations, he understands the growth potential of his country and realizes the importance to provide for a higher standard of living. Something he knows the population will soon demand. He acted on his belief and vision and started the construction division for GJP, aimed at constructing villas and condominiums across Brazil to cater to a growing demand by the population. His patriotism and business acumen prompted the President of Brazil to invite him to be part of the Tourism Board of the country. A more qualified man, they won’t find.
