Why Omar Yunes is Among the Leading Lights in Mexico’s Hospitality Market

Omar Yunes, the Mexican franchisee of global restaurant chain Sushi Itto, was recently named as the Franchisee of the Year during a glitzy gala held in Florence, Italy. Omar was honored for the immense contribution that he has made in establishing Sushi Itto as one of the most notable restaurant chains in the world. He owns and runs the Mexican franchise of the brand, which comprises 13 outlets in Mexico City, Vera Cruz, and Puebla.

Since signing up to be Sushi Itto’s franchisee at the age of 21, Mr. Yunes has made a name for himself for having one of the brightest entrepreneurial minds. He has been dedicated to the brand’s global expansion strategy, something that has also enabled his franchise to grow incredibly. At the moment, his franchise units represent 10 percent of the total number of outlets owned by the global restaurant chain. This is a clear testament of his prominence within the Sushi Itto community.

Omar asserts that he would never have succeeded in the competitive market without his employees who he says, are totally committed to his vision. The glamorous award ceremony was well-represented by attendees from over 30 countries including Portugal, Italy, Hungary, Mexico, France, Argentina, and Brazil. Winners in different categories were selected basing on the effect that their franchises have to their business networks. Other considerations included innovation and advances made to the original business model.

Mr. Yunes is arguably one of the most successful young Mexican entrepreneurs. He has substantial interests in the hospitality and real estate sectors. Starting out at a young age, he asserts that he encountered numerous challenges, which ultimately shaped his entrepreneurial journey.
Apart from Sushi Itto, Omar has invested in the lucrative New York real estate market. Plans are in the pipeline to increase the number of Mexican Sushi Itto outlets in coming months. He also hopes to make inroads into other markets.
